Travelers visiting Beijing’s Badaling Great Wall can now add a museum visit to their itinerary. The China Great Wall Museum began trial operations on October 24, 2026, offering an additional cultural experience within the Badaling Great Wall scenic area.

Visitor information published by the Beijing municipal government on November 2 confirms that the museum is free to enter, with no advance reservation required during trial operations. Daily admission is limited to 4,000 visitors, and entry is subject to availability. www.beijing.gov.cn

Opening Hours and Entry Requirements

The museum’s trial-operation arrangements are:

  • Opening hours: 09:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:30.
  • Weekly closure: Tuesdays, except statutory public holidays.
  • Admission: Free during trial operations; no advance reservation required.
  • Identification: Chinese resident identity card holders can enter through the gates using their cards. Visitors holding other valid identity documents must register their details for admission.
  • Children: Visitors aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

International visitors should bring their original passports. Travelers using other documents, or visiting as part of a group, should confirm the registration procedure with the museum before departure.

Combine Great Wall Views with Cultural Exploration

For travelers interested in Chinese history, the museum provides another stop to consider alongside a Badaling Great Wall visit.

Families and private groups can adjust the day’s schedule to balance outdoor sightseeing with time at the museum. Allow enough time for both activities, particularly when traveling with children or older relatives, and check the museum’s weekly closure before choosing your travel date.

Free museum admission does not include admission to the Badaling Great Wall. Any separate scenic-area tickets and transport arrangements should be checked when planning your visit.

Planning Your Visit

The museum is located within the Badaling Great Wall scenic area in Yanqing District, Beijing.

As trial-operation arrangements may change, check the latest official information before traveling. The museum’s published visitor enquiry number is 010-60166555, available from 09:00 to 17:00.

SEEK CHINA TRAVEL can help incorporate the museum into a private Beijing itinerary, with sightseeing and walking time arranged around your interests and pace.
