Malaysian travelers visiting China now have another way to pay using their existing banking apps.
On October 28, 2026, Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) launched outbound DuitNow QR connectivity through Alipay+. The initial participating banks are Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank.
Customers using supported banking apps can make payments at participating Alipay+ merchants in mainland China, without downloading an additional payment app or creating a separate Alipay+ account. paynet.my
How Does It Work?
At a participating merchant, customers can open the DuitNow QR payment function in their supported Malaysian banking app, scan the merchant’s QR code displaying the Alipay+ logo, and review the transaction before confirming payment.
Availability depends on the bank, the customer’s account and the merchant’s payment setup. Travelers should not assume that every Alipay QR code accepts this service.
What to Prepare Before Your Trip
Before departure, check that your banking app is up to date and that the relevant overseas payment function is available. Review any applicable limits, exchange rates and charges directly with your bank.
It is also sensible to carry a backup payment method, such as a bank card and some renminbi cash, for merchants where the service is unavailable.
For Malaysian visitors, the new connection offers an additional option for everyday purchases while exploring China. Payments for accommodation, tours or other larger bookings should still be confirmed directly with the service provider.
