New Huanggang Port Opens with 24-Hour Clearance Between Shenzhen and Hong Kong

Updated October 15, 2026 · SEEK CHINA TRAVEL

Travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen has become more convenient following the official opening of the redeveloped Huanggang Port on October 12, 2026. The new border crossing provides 24-hour passenger clearance and introduces a streamlined immigration process designed to reduce waiting times.

Faster Border Clearance

The new Huanggang Port uses a collaborative inspection and joint clearance system, allowing eligible travelers to complete immigration procedures for both Hong Kong and mainland China through a coordinated process.

According to official announcements, the new system is expected to reduce typical clearance times from approximately 30 minutes to around five minutes under suitable operating conditions.

The port features 134 automated inspection channels and 68 manual inspection channels.

24-Hour Cross-Border Travel

The redeveloped port officially began operations at 6:30 a.m. on October 12 and now offers round-the-clock clearance for passengers and passenger vehicles.

On its first day of operation, the port recorded approximately 79,500 passenger crossings, according to Shenzhen immigration authorities.

The new facility replaces the previous passenger clearance arrangements involving the temporary Huanggang Port building and Hong Kong's Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

What International Travelers Should Know

For international visitors planning to explore both Hong Kong and mainland China, the upgraded crossing offers greater flexibility when arranging travel between the two cities.

However, travelers should keep the following points in mind:

  • The port operates 24 hours a day, but public transport schedules vary by route.

  • Entry into mainland China remains subject to applicable visa, visa-free entry, or other immigration requirements.

  • Eligibility for automated immigration channels depends on the traveler's documents and applicable enrollment rules.

  • Travelers should check current border transport arrangements before departure.
